Kendal Calling 2017: Stereophonics, Franz, Manics and more to headline

Over 60 artists have been revealed as part of the stacked first announcement

The 2017 lineup for Kendal Calling has been revealed, and it’s a stacked selection of headline names and major acts.

Stereophonics, Franz Ferdinand, Manic Street Preachers and Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls will all headline the Lake District festival in July.

Frightened Rabbit, Jake Bugg and Slaves are also confirmed, as are Loyle Carner and Lethal Bizzle.

A major grouping of hot and established indie and alternative bands, including Editors, The Coral, The Hunna, Circa Waves and Nothing But Thieves are also announced.

Brian Wilson Presents Pet Sounds and Tinie Tempah complete an unprecedented list of six headliners.

Today’s announcement sets the ball rolling for one of the UK’s best mid-sized festivals in 2017.

Each year the main stage features established current and veteran acts, while various tent stages showcase up-and-coming bands, DJs and other talents.

This year’s mammoth batch of six headline names is led by mainstays Stereophonics and Manic Street Preachers, with Franz Ferdinand – who haven’t performed much in the UK in recent years – another highlight.

Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls will follow their support slots with blink-182 as another, with Beach Boys legend Brian Wilson and pop’s Tinie Tempah the final two.

Over 50 other artists have also been confirmed, making up the meat of the lineup for Kendal Calling this year.

The Shimmer Band
Bristol’s The Shimmer Band are one of FEISTY’s favourite new artists

Some of FEISTY’s favourites on show will be Blaenavon, Honeyblood and The Shimmer Band, plus Fickle FriendsFEWS and The Pale White.

The deep list also includes electronic music heroes Faithless and indie pop band Little Comets.

And the quirkier tones come from The Lancashire Hotpots, who have become Kendal’s house band of sorts, and Morrissey mariachi covers band Mexrissey.

Tickets for 2017 go on-sale this Friday 27 January at 10am, priced at £135 outright for the weekend or £25 on the festival’s payment plan.
