New Music: Strange Hellos – Monumental

Published

Monumental is a soaring introduction to the alt-pop talents of Strange Hellos.

The Norwegian band’s latest single begins with pop knowhow, but gradually develops a jangly kick unlike anything else we’ve heard so far this year.

Fuzzy, distorted guitars linger underneath the pop framework and Birgitta Alida Hole’s fanciful vocals. It’s a curious combination that, somehow, works.

Listen to Monumental:

Borne of a studio collaboration between four talented musicians, Bergen-based Strange Hellos have released four great tracks to date.

Unwilling to lock themselves into one genre, Broken Teenage Heart channels shoegaze and Cocteau Twins, while We Are Trouble sounds like a reinvented 80s indie A-side.

We’re excited to hear more of their catchy melodies and style-hopping sounds throughout 2017.
